Ten Year Anniversary Ride

Closing the Gap in the GAP Registration Form

Saturday, Oct 9, 2021 Start between 9 AM and 11 AM.

Snacks Provided 11 AM to 1 PM (mile 136.5) – just below the Kennywood Steel Curtain roller coaster, by the SVTC storage containers.

Ten years ago the section of the GAP Trail between the Riverton Bridge and the Waterfront became a reality.  This almost 5-mile section of trail was one of the most complicated sections of the entire GAP Trail to complete.  It involved two railroads, the US Steel Corporation, and many, many property owners.  It required two new flyovers bridges to cross over the railroad tracks and back and conversion of the Riverton railroad bridge to a trail bridge.  Please join us in a Ten Year Anniversary ride celebrating this next to the last closing of a gap in the GAP Trail.

All proceeds from this ride will go toward the maintenance of the Steel Valley Trail Council’s section of the GAP Trail.

The ride will start from the parking lot to the west of the former Mitchell’s restaurant.  Please park in that lot.  Check-In and Registration will be across the pedestrian bridge at the Waterfront Town Center.  Please do not park in the Town Center as those parking spots are reserved for people patronizing the shops and restaurants in that section of the Waterfront.
Rides will begin from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.  There will be snacks and drinks available from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm just past Kennywood park by the benches, picnic table, and porta-john stop at mile 136.5.

Rides can consist of any distance but to ride the entire length of the new section of the trail that opened in 2011 you would have to ride from the parking lot next to Mitchell’s to the Riverton Bridge.  The round trip would be about 13 miles. Some typical rides and distances are listed below:
Round Trip  Approx.  Mileage       Destination
8 Miles        Parking Lot to the Snack area just past Kennywood
13 Miles      Parking Lot to the Riverton Bridge
21 Miles      Parking Lot to the Boston Bridge

The cost of the ride is $25 per person.  Registration includes a membership in the Steel Valley Trail Council.  Riders under 18 riding with an adult can ride free.
