Coal Tipple industrial artifact Tipple is derived from the time when men would push carts full of coal to the bunker and tip them over for dumping. The tipple provided short-term storage and facilitated the easy loading of the rail cars. This tipple hugs the north shore of the Monongahela River beneath the Homestead Gray’s Bridge.
