McKeesport: Riverton Bridge Ribbon Cutting

On September 25, McKeesport Propel students Shamara Murphy, 10; Marissa Vargo, 12; Javier Arreola, 11; and their art teacher Brad Gentile attended the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Riverton Bridge as part of the Steel Valley Trail.

U.S. Steel Corp. Chairman and CEO John Surma officially transferred ownership of the Riverton Railroad Bridge during the event. As part of their Art Club project, the students designed and painted five trail art banners for the McKeesport section of the Steel Valley Trail. Read the full story in the McKeesport Daily News.

Homestead: Pump House Event with Rivers of Steel

On Saturday May 31, we partnered with Rivers of Steel to present two projects our organizations produced with Homestead Propel students. Art students showed off the five trail art banners they created through the Community Trail Art Initiative, reflecting the flora, fauna, history, river views, and people along their section of the Steel Valley Trail. Rivers of Steel presented their "Cookie Cookbook" of unique family recipes, the result of students' research into their family histories through food traditions. The event included history, ecology, and health trail tours, cookie tasting, and slide shows at the historic Homestead Pump House.
